Boing! Boing! Boing!

Sky Zone trampolines are a soaring good time

Let’s face it; everyone loves jumping on a trampoline. You don’t have to be a kid to admit that. But when I learned I would be testing out the SkyRobics fitness class at Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park, I had horrid flashbacks of getting pinched as my evil younger brother “double jumped” me, sending me flying onto the springy edge. Although I was safe from the springs at Sky Zone, I definitely felt this adventure the next day: the heart-pumping trampoline cardio class kicked my butt.

General Manager Cole Raven opened the franchise in early June 2014 next to Burlington Coat Factory on the corner of the Lloyd Expressway and Green River Road on Evansville’s East Side. The park features a variety of trampoline related activities so everyone, from toddler to grandma, can have some fun.

THE SCOOP
After signing a waiver, changing into special SkySocks, and securing my belongings in the rental lockers, I was ready to jump. The class began simply enough, as the two SkyRobics instructors (one performing tougher moves and the other showing modified versions) gave simple instructions on safety. As the rhythmic tunes powered on, we started by performing side-to-side jumps, toe touches, and jumping jacks. We then progressed to several routines lasting 20 to 30 seconds each, including mountain climbers (whew!), crunches, and squat jumps.

And that’s just the first 10 minutes.
Several one-minute breaks occur throughout the hour-long fitness class, offering time to rehydrate or to bounce casually at your own pace. But don’t sit or lay on your trampoline — that’ll cost you some crunches.

THE VERDICT
If you decide to try Sky Zone, plan your arrival time based on your jump time. If you want to jump for 60 minutes ($15), plan to arrive 20 to 30 minutes before your scheduled jump time to allow time to get checked in. Jump times begin every 30 minutes, and you can jump in just about any half hour increment. The $10 SkyRobics classes are offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.

Dress in proper attire such as a T-shirt and athletic shorts as you will work up a sweat. Open jump times vary so call ahead. Waivers are required for all jumpers. Walk-ins are welcomed, but all courts have capacities so it’s suggested you pre-purchase tickets online.

Fun tip: try jumping when you step off the trampolines. Let me know how that goes.
