Capture Holiday Cheer

The holidays are here and Main Street in Downtown Evansville is filled with winter displays sure to make your days merry and bright. These decorations — funded by the Downtown Evansville Economic Improvement District — feature everything from trees to candy canes. Take a break from shopping and capture the seasonal spirit with these five spots!

1. The Heart of Downtown Evansville

This spot next to the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana Gallery at 212 Main St. has returned for the holidays! Decked with a festive flair of berries, greenery, and mistletoe, this display is the perfect frame for a winter selfie.

2. Santa’s Mailbox

What better place to get into the Christmas spirit than at Santa’s Mailbox. Take a selfie or write a letter to Santa and his elves to be delivered to Santa Claus, Indiana. There’s no time to waste! Letters must be placed in the mailbox with a return address by Dec. 15.

3. Santa’s Little Helpers Alley

Bring the Christmas season to life with 3D candy canes, clocks, gumdrops, and elf shoes at Santa’s Little Helpers Alley located in the 200 block of Main Street alley.

4. Main Street Arch

A familiar site in Downtown, the Main Street Arch is decorated every year with garland and ornaments. Each side of the arch also is host to a 10-foot tall nutcracker.

5. Golden Christmas Tree

The 10-foot tall golden Christmas tree has once again made its way to the 400 block of Main Street. Enjoy this photo op with some friends, family, or even your pets!

Don’t miss the newest installation, The Chandelier Tree located just behind the F.C. Tucker Emge REALTORS Downtown office at 130 Main St. This light display — a project between the EID, Wilde Horticulture, Pinnacle Contractors, and F.C. Tucker — was inspired by a fun display in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, where two private citizens used a tree to hang chandeliers, prompting a revitalization of a century-old neighborhood.

The Downtown tree display will be unveiled at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 during a virtual ceremony on the Downtown EID Facebook page.

And if your little ones need some one-on-one time with Santa Claus, the Curbside Santa Visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 is a perfect chance. At the 500 block of Main Street, volunteers will direct guests who are safely in their vehicles to Santa’s spot down the street.
