Coming to Life

Work on Idea Home 2020 moves ahead at record speed

When building a home with more than 10,000 square feet, there is a lot of work and detail that needs to come together. Luckily for the Evansville Living Idea Home 2020 to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ohio Valley, the project’s contractor, Hirsch Custom Homes, is moving steadily along.

Now that framing is complete, work on the home is pushing ahead at a record pace, according to Corey Hirsch, owner of Hirsch Custom Homes. Drywall has been hung and all three levels of the home are coming to life. Panoramic doors have been installed on the main level that will slide open and fold in an accordion style to open the house to a patio in the backyard. The main level also includes two of the three full kitchens.

The second story will feature a walkway with glass railing that overlooks the living room on the main level. The landing on the second story is Hirsch’s favorite part of the home so far, he says. The windows show off the sweeping views of Victoria National with skylights in the ceiling that will shine natural light all the way down to a garden area in the basement level.

“It’s 80 feet from the basement all the way up to the skylights,” says Hirsch.

The basement level has more living and entertaining space with a third full kitchen, a prayer room, craft room, family areas, billiard games, and a theater room with three tiers of stadium seating.

While the interior of the home progresses quickly, the real challenge will be the detailed yard and landscaping that is dependent on good weather in the coming months.

“It’s a blast,” says Hirsch. “I really enjoy it.”
