It's on the Haus

Tell City brewery opens with success
Derek Cronin, one of the owners of the Pour Haus, stands behind the bar. The sports bar offers 36 beers on tap.

Owned by Chris Ramsey and Derek Cronin, the Pour Haus located in Tell City, Indiana, started as two separate dreams: Ramsey’s goal of opening a brewery and Cronin’s desire to own a bar. When the two entrepreneurs met, the pub and restaurant idea took off.

“I had wanted my own bar and Tell City needed this type of sports bar,” says Cronin. “It turned into him (Ramsey) wanting a brewery and a restaurant, to eventually us saying ‘Why don’t we do both?’”

The Pour Haus opened in August 2014 and because of popularity already is expanding. The brewery portion — Tell City Brewing Co. — will be completed by the end of this year and will begin brewing by early 2015. A 9,000-square-foot beer garden also will be completed by the end of the year along with a kitchen expansion.

But the Pour Haus prides itself on being more than just a bar and brewery. The restaurant offers a full menu of American cuisine in a family atmosphere. The Pour Haus also offers live entertainment year round.

The historic building used to be a machine shop, built before 1880 and rebuilt after a 1907 fire. It underwent seven months of renovations to become the Pour Haus. All of the ceiling’s woodwork and the building’s brick are original or made in Tell City. Its two restored bars are originally from New York and are more than 100 years old. Thirty-six beers are on tap including beers from Evansville’s Tin Man and Carson breweries, and Louisville’s Bluegrass Brewing Co.

“We wanted to carry local breweries beers and we want to carry ours, but we also wanted a selection,” says Cronin. “We have the largest selection until you really get out into larger cities.”

Visit the Pour Haus at 706 Humboldt St., Tell City, IN., or for more information, call 812-547-BREW.
