War Memorials

In our May/June issue of Evansville Living, we presented you with a list of war memorials in Evansville. Here is our expanded — yet still not fully comprehensive — list of other war memorials within easy driving distance of our fair city. Warrick County

Desert Storm Veterans Memorial
Erected in 1992 by the Warrick County M.A.S.H. Support Group, the Warrick County Desert Storm Veterans Memorial is dedicated to the men and women from the United States of America who served in the armed forces in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm and all military personnel involved in the liberation of Kuwait. The memorial is located in Boonville, Ind., on the east lawn of the Warrick County Courthouse.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Located on the southwest lawn of the Warrick County Courthouse in Boonville, Ind., is the Warrick County Vietnam Veterans Memorial. This memorial was erected in 1981. The memorial features the seals of the United States Armed Services on each of the four sides of the obelisk.

Posey County, Ind.

American Revolution Honor Roll
The Posey County American Revolution honor roll is on the lawn of the Posey County Courthouse in Mount Vernon, Ind. Featured on the plaque are the names of soldiers of the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783 who were buried in Posey County. The Gen. Thomas Posey Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution erected the marker in 1977.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial
The Posey County Soldiers and Sailors Memorial is on the lawn of the Posey County Courthouse in Mount Vernon, Ind. This memorial was erected in 1908 to honor Civil War soldiers and sailors from Posey County.

New Harmony Area Veterans Memorial
The New Harmony Area Veterans Memorial is located on Church Street, next to the post office. This memorial is not specific to a single war and is intended to honor all war veterans of Posey County.

Gibson County, Ind.

Civil War Memorial
Inscribed on the Gibson County Civil War Memorial are the names of the major battles of the Civil War, along with a quote from the Gettysburg Address. The memorial was erected in 1912 by the citizens of Gibson County, Ind., in honor of the 2,200 soldiers and sailors who enlisted from Gibson County in the Civil War from 1861 to 1865. The monument is in Princeton, Ind., at the intersection of Broadway and North Main streets.

Korean and Vietnam Honor Rolls
The Gibson County Korean and Vietnam Honor Rolls can be found on the southeast lawn of the Gibson County Courthouse in Princeton, Ind. The marker was erected by the Gibson County ‘Nam Vets, in honor of the Gibson County veterans (974 in Korea and 644 in Vietnam) who served. The names of the veterans who were killed in action are inscribed on the memorial.

American Revolution Honor Roll
A total of 41 names are inscribed on the side of the Gibson County American Revolution Honor Roll. The memorial erected in 1977 by the Gen. John Gibson Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution honors the soldiers and patriots of the American Revolution who are buried in Gibson County, Ind. The memorial is located at the south entrance of the Gibson County courthouse.

Henderson County

Veterans’ War Memorial
This Veterans memorial is for all veterans from the Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines from Henderson County. It was dedicated in 1998. The memorial sits on the edge of the historic Central Park in downtown Henderson. This memorial is the largest in the line of memorials in the park.

Persian Gulf War Memorial
The Persian Gulf War Memorial, located in Henderson, Ky., was dedicated to honor the men and women who served in the Persian Gulf War, specifically Operation Desert Storm, from Jan. 16, 1991, to April 11, 1991. The memorial is located in Central Park on Main Street, near the Henderson County Courthouse.

Revolutionary Soldiers Memorial
The Revolutionary Soldiers memorial honors all the American Revolutionary War soldiers that are buried in Henderson County. Inscribed on the monument is a list of names of the known soldiers in the county. The memorial is located in front of the county courthouse in downtown Henderson.

Vietnam War Memorial
The Vietnam War Memorial is located in Central Park in downtown Henderson. The memorial honors all the soldiers from Henderson County who fought in the Vietnam War.
