Not-so-Happy Hour

Indiana is well-known for its strict alcohol laws, but did you know that it’s actually illegal for Hoosiers to enjoy an official “Happy Hour.”

While legislative efforts to overturn this law failed in 2016, not all hope is lost. Brunch goers, party animals, and after-work drinkers alike can still enjoy these all-day drink specials and signature cocktails from their favorite local spots.

Mo’s House

Open at 3:30 p.m. every weekday, Mo’s House at 1114 Parrett St. in Haynie’s Corner serves an array of traditional drinks and specialty cocktails. Their newest addition is the “Curry Up Now,” a savory drink made up of Sipes by Hard Truth Spirits, ancho chili liqueur, lemon juice, dem, turmeric powder, and curry and cumin bitters all topped with a sage leaf.

The Rooftop

The Rooftop at 112 N.W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. offers guests a full-service bar and breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. Check their Facebook page for updates on their weekly specials, including $12 bottomless margaritas and mimosas on the weekends and their new Spiked Lemonade for $3 on Mondays.

Lamasco Bar & Grill

From 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. every day of the week, Lamasco Bar and Grill at 1331 W. Franklin is the place to be for live entertainment, such as karaoke and local bands, 250 nights a year. The popular bar may be small in size, but it has big offerings. Cocktails such as the “Lamascotini” (their raspberry twist on a classic cosmopolitan) and the salted caramel White Russian are only $8.

Carson’s Brewery

Not everyone has the same palate, so we can’t forget about the many brewpubs and microbreweries in Evansville, such as Carson’s Brewery at 2404 Lynch Road. Carson’s Taproom recently expanded their hours to serve their homemade craft beers seven days a week. Enjoy a fresh brew 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays, and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays.
