15th Annual Deaconess Classic
May 11. Evansville Country Club, 3810 Stringtown Road. Since its inception, the Deaconess Classic has raised more than $1.5 million to pay for more than 8,000 mammograms for women in need, state-of-the-art detection technology, and support for national breast cancer research at Deaconess Hospital. The daylong event includes plenty of socializing, golfing, fine cuisine, and a golf clinic hosted by LPGA Hall of Fame member Nancy Lopez. Registration begins at 9 a.m. $300-$1,200. Disturbed
May 13. Roberts Stadium, 2600 Division St. With three platinum albums, the hard-rock band Disturbed brings its “Music as a Weapon Tour” to Evansville. At this show, the group will perform what they call their “darkest and angriest outing” yet. 7 p.m. $38.75. (812) 423-7222.

YWCA’S Tribute to Achievement
May 14. Evansville Country Club, 3810 Stringtown Road. Every year, supporters and members of the YWCA honor the contributions of individuals and organizations striving to make life better for girls and women in the Evansville community. The Young Women of Promise scholarships are also awarded at this event. Proceeds support the YWCA’s programs and services to empower local women. 6 p.m. $60 individual; $800 table. St. Benedict Cathedral Summer Social
May 14-16. St. Benedict Parish Center, 1328 Lincoln Ave. The summer solstice on June 21 marks the official beginning of summer, but for local Catholics, the first summer social escorts in the season with chicken dinners, bingo tournaments, carnival rides and more. Historic Newburgh and Evansville Living’s 4th Annual Wine, Art & Jazz Festival
May 15-17. Old Lock and Dam Park, Newburgh. Kick off the weekend with “Grapes on the Grass,” a wine-tasting soirée featuring some of the best offerings from Indiana wineries. The next two days feature regional specialty foods and wines, seminars on wine production and selection, wares by local artisans and craftsmen, and plenty of good music. 7 p.m. May 15; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. May 16; noon-5 p.m. May 17. $10 per day; $55 for three days; $40 for Friday soirée. Home Grown Bluegrass Festival
May 15-16. John James Audubon State Park, 3100 Hwy. 41 N., Henderson, Ky. Enjoy two days of pickin’ and jammin’ by a beautiful lakeside setting. Local bluegrass bands host this annual festival, and aspiring musicians have an open microphone. SWIRCA’S River City Senior Games
May 15-21. SWIRCA, 16 W. Virginia St. Every year, this weeklong competition draws some of the city’s best athletes ages 50 years and up, featuring a range of activities from cycling to shuffleboard. YMCA Golf Outing 2009
May 15. Eagle Valley Golf Course, 10350 Petersburg Road. Dubbed the “Play-a-Round for The Y” golf outing, this annual “four man scramble” event attracts avid golfers and supporters of the YMCA’s youth sporting and fitness programs. 11:30 a.m. shotgun start. $600 for foursome; $150 for hole sponsorship. YWCA’s Personally Speaking Series

23rd Annual New Harmony Project
May 16-30. New Harmony Inn, 504 North St., New Harmony. Accomplished writers from throughout the United States gather in this peaceful setting for a two-week retreat, where they’ll work with teams of directors, dramaturgs, and actors to develop their scripts for stage, television, and film. Creative Arts and Crafts Festival
May 16. John James Audubon Museum, 3100 Hwy. 41 N., Henderson, Ky. Artists and vendors will fill gardens of the museum with booths selling and exhibiting their works of arts and crafts. Come enjoy the food, music, and children’s programs throughout the day. The festival is hosted in conjunction with the Home Grown Bluegrass Festival. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. $3 per car. Demolition City Roller Derby
May 16. Memorial Coliseum, 300 Court St. Bearing aliases such as “Rock Scar” and “Godjilla,” the athletic, brazen members of the Tri-State’s first all-female roller derby team take to the floor of the Coliseum. Prepare for an action-packed evening of this punk-influenced, contact skating sport. The next home bout is June 20. EPYO/EPYO II Spring Concert

Southern Indiana/Tri-State Walk to Cure Diabetes
May 16. Holiday World, Santa Claus, Ind. Beginning in the Legends Parking Lot at Holiday World, this event includes entertainment, a one-mile walk, and the opportunity to enjoy a post-walk lunch and refreshments in the picnic area of Holiday World. The Children’s Alice in Wonderland

Great Strides Walk
May 17. Howell Park, 1101 S. Barker Ave. The life expectancy of children diagnosed with the fatal genetic disease cystic fibrosis has increased dramatically thanks to research and treatment supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. At their biggest annual fundraiser, Great Strides, local organizers hope to reach a goal of $25,000 in contributions.
