Celebrating the success of Evansville’s high schools in 2017

Evansville is home to many high schools — both public and private — that educate, coach, and guide thousands of students. To help celebrate the success of Evansville’s high schools in 2017, we’ve gathered the highlights to showcase the accomplishments of our students; here’s to even more success in 2018!

REITZ MEMORIAL

State championships in football (Class 3A), girls’ soccer (Class 2A), boys’ soccer (Class 2A), and Indiana Academic Decathlon

•  2016-17 City All-Sports Award

•  99 percent graduation rate in 2017

•  One National Merit semi-finalist and three commended students

MATER DEI

 State championships in girls’ soccer (Class 1A), individual wrestling (Joe Lee), speech team (Class 1A), and individual speech-humorous interpretation  (Alex Harrison)

•  Marching band state finalist, Class D

•  A grade and four-star school ratings from Indiana Department of Education

BOSSE

•  Freshman Reese Perry participated in Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

•  Sectional and regional championships in boys’ basketball

•  Student Diara Bailey named SIAC Athlete of the Year

NORTH

•  Marching band state finalist, Class B

•  One National Merit semi-finalist (Keith Makhecha)

•  11 awards at IU-Southeast High School Press Day

•  Sectional and regional championships in girls’ track and girls’ golf

•  Dane Hancock, Ashlyn Thompson, Kade Fleming, and Claudia Eder qualified for Business Professionals of America national competition

CENTRAL

•  Bronze rating from the U.S. News & World Report for Best High School

•  Four students (Kyle Bickel, Madisyn Grigsby, Brooklynn Simon, and Zoe Woebkenberg) named Rising Stars of Indiana Class of 2019

NEW TECH INSTITUTE

•  Archery team competed at the Archery Nationals Tournament

•  Student Elijah Guess named Indiana Academic All-Star by Indiana Association of School Principals

HARRISON

•  State championship, 100 meter and 200 meter dash (Noah McBride)

•  Student Josh Brown elected Youth Governor of Indiana

SIGNATURE SCHOOL

•  Named No. 1 best high school in Indiana and No. 11 best charter high school in the nation by U.S. News & World Report

•  Named No. 3 most challenging high school in the nation by The Washington Post

•  Four-star School and A grade ratings by the Indiana Department of Education

EVANSVILLE DAY SCHOOL

•  A grade rating from the Indiana Department of Education

•  100 percent graduation rate and four-year college placement

•  Nine percent of Class of 2018 earned National Merit recognition

•  ISSMA gold medals earned in treble ensemble, mixed ensemble, and soloists by Jayme Carvajal and Aya Hall

F.J. REITZ

•  Marching band state finalist, Class B

•  Student Jason Chamness named first alternate in Lilly Community Scholarship

•  Students Trinity Head and Emma Woods qualified for Business Professionals of America national competition
