We produce stylish, smart, and informative print and online publications that enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors to Southwestern Indiana.
Tucker Publishing Group is seeking a writer to join our editorial staff producing the bimonthly Evansville Living and Evansville Business magazines, plus Evansville City View and other annual publications. For more than 15 years, our company has pursued a mission to inform, instruct, amuse, and entertain our readers, helping them get the most out of living in Evansville and the surrounding area. The most important attribute is to possess excellent writing skills and a keen eye for grammatical and factual errors. The writer must be able to handle a high volume of copy under tight deadlines. We want someone with a talent at trimming sentences of unnecessary words. A good candidate appreciates the power of a good story and believes articles must be enriching, meaningful, and useful for readers. The staff writer will interview sources and write copy for Tucker Publishing Group magazines on diverse topics: health, business, travel, food, and more. Past duties have included compiling the arts and entertainment event listings, writing up-front pieces and department stories, and pitching story ideas for the magazines. The staff writer also will post social media messages for our users, develop online content, and proofread pages. This candidate must be enthusiastic, hard working, and a go-getter who is always seeking story ideas. The staff writer will collaborate with the editor, creative director, managing editor, and other employees and interns to create content for all TPG publications.
An undergraduate degree in journalism, writing, communications, or a related field is mandatory. Other assets include solid business and interview skills, mastery of Microsoft Word and Excel, the ability to handle multiple projects on tight deadlines, marketing skills, and personal responsibility. Knowledge of The Associated Press Stylebook, Adobe Photoshop, and the Evansville community are a plus.
