All Creatures Great and Small: The Animalier of Antoine-Louis Barye
When:
Mon., Oct 10, 2011 @ 11:00am - Sat., Dec 31, 2011 @ 5:00pm
Where:
Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science. 422 S.E. Riverside Drive
Located in the museum’s Alcove Gallery, a unique, private Evansville collection of Antonie-Louis Barye’s artwork is on exhibit. He became the first of a group of 19th century French sculptors called “Les Animaliers.” Before these artists, animals were not the central theme in pieces but rather portrayed as decorative features. Against that tradition, Barye’s miniatures of animals were criticized and ignored until mid-century. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays–Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays, noon-5 p.m. Sundays. Free.
