To honor the achievement of the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804-1807, which was to survey the land west of the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles, Missouri, has been created and will undertake a reenactment of this historic journey.
The Expedition has recreated the boats of the original Corps of Discovery. This October, they are sailing the Ohio River from Clarksville, Indiana, to Fort Massac at Metropolis, Illinois, with stops in several cities and towns.
The Expedition will be in Newburgh, Indiana, Oct. 9-10. It also will be at the Clark Cabin Sept. 30-Oct. 5; Brandenburg, Kentucky, from Oct. 5-7; Magnet, Indiana from Oct. 7-8; Tell City, Indiana, from Oct. 8-9; Henderson, Kentucky, from Oct. 10-11; Old Shawneetown, Illinois, from Oct. 11-12; Golconda, Illinois from Oct. 12-13; and Fort Massac from Oct. 13-16.
