Weekend events with Bodyworks and Tashi Kyli Monastery

 Bodyworks along with friends from the Tashi Kyli Monastery will host several different events for community residents from Sept. 5 through Sept. 10. 

Sept. 5, 10 a.m to 11:30 a.m. – Tashi Sholpa Dance at Franklin Street Bazaar. This dance welcomes His Holiness the Dalai Lama whenever he visits a monastery or Tibetan settlement. Tibetan merchandise will also be sold. 

Sept. 5, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Children’s Tibetan Workshop at the Children’s Museum of Evansville. The monks will work with the children to create one of the following: Butter Sculpture (using only Play Doh), coloring Tibetan designs, or creating TIbetan Prayer Flags. 

Sept. 5, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. – This event will be at Unity Church, 4118 Pollack Ave. A community meal will be held with the monks following by Sacred Fire Ceremony (Fire Puja) performed outdoors by the monks to eliminate obstacles from your life. 

Sept. 6, 2 p.m. – Opening ceremony of World Peace Sand Mandala at the new Bodyworks location, 2809 Lincoln Ave., Suite 100. This will be the new space for Boydworks after Oct. 1.

Sept. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Construction of World Peace Sand Mandala at Bodyworks at Lincoln Ave. address. 

Sept. 7, 5 p.m. – Blessing of the Woods at Wesselman Nature Society. This is a free, public event.

Sept. 7, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Benefit dinner for Tashi Kyil Monastery followed by a slideshow about life at the Tashi Kyil Monastery. The monks will create most of the dinner from taditional Tibetan recipes and will welcome guests with Tashi Sholpa dance. Each member of the tour group will present his life story to the audience. Each monk will have a business card with contact information. Tickets for this fundraiser are $50 and must be purchased in advance by calling Bodyworks at 812-490-9009.

Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Construction of World Peace Mandala at Bodyworks at Lincoln Ave. Home and Business blessings will be given to remove obstacles. Prayer flags blessings and hanging in home or business. Pujas (prayer offerings) for people who are ill, at individual’s home, care facilities, or on location at Bodyworks (Lincoln Ave.) to relieve suffering by eliminating negativities.

Sept. 9, 6:30 p.m. – Tibetan Language & Alphabet at Bodyworks, Lincoln Ave. location. participants should be high school age or older. The monks will show how to write several etters and common phrases like "Good Day" (Tashi Deleg) and "How are you?" (Kyaay Rong Ky Tsug Dey Po Yin Pey). Register by calling Bodyworks. Fee is $15 per person. 

Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Construction of World Peace Mandala at Bodyworks at Lincoln Ave. Home and Business blessings will be given to remove obstacles. Sept. 10, 5:30 p.m. – Closing ceremony, destruction of Sand Mandala to symbolize the impermanence of all that exists. 

Sept. 10, 6 p.m. – Sand from Mandala will be poured into the Ohio River where the waters carry healing energies throughout the world.
