This Weekend: July 14-18

Summer continues to be jam-packed in the Tri-State, with live music, staged performances, sports tournaments, county fairs, and even dachshund races and an appearance by a World War II B-25 bomber all slated for this weekend.

Music in the Park

6-8 p.m. July 14
Lorraine Park, 2399 Adams Ave.

This week’s installment of Music in the Park features the Better Than Nothin’ Band at Lorraine Park. Enjoy games, family-friendly activities, and free swimming at Lorraine Pool. Admission is free, and a half-pot raffle will take place.

The SpongeBob Musical

7 p.m. July 14-16 and 2 p.m. July 17
Old National Events Plaza, 715 Locust St.

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation and EVSC Foundation present the 34th annual summer musical with a production of these favorite underwater sea creatures.

Emo Nite with The Hot Topics

8 p.m. July 15
STAGEtwo Productions, 321 N. Congress Ave.

Emo/pop-punk cover band The Hot Topics takes the stage for a night of early 2000s pop-punk anthems from My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Simple Plan, and more. Read more in our story “Not Just a Phase” in the May/June issue of Evansville Living magazine.

Warbird Weekend

10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 16-17
Evansville Wartime Museum, 7503 Petersburg Road

World War II B-25 Bomber “Champaign Gal” flies into town for another Warbird Weekend at Evansville Wartime Museum. Visitors can purchase a tour of or flight aboard the bomber, view the new display platform for the “Hoosier Spirit II” P-47 Thunderbolt airplane, and check out the Wartime Museum’s newest addition: a WWII Sherman tank.

Summer Saturdays at Wesselman Woods

10 a.m.and 2 p.m.  July 16
Wesselman Woods, 551 N. Boeke Road

This week’s environmental experience includes an animal encounter and a guided hike. Entrance is free with the price of admission to Wesselman Woods. All ages are welcome.

2022 Wiener Dog Races First Qualifying Round

2 p.m. July 16
Ellis Park, 3300 U.S. Highway 41, Henderson, Kentucky

The fur will fly Saturday as dachshunds set out in a preliminary race to qualify for this year’s Wiener Dog Derby scheduled for Aug. 27. Five Tri-State shelters — New Life in Mt. Vernon, Indiana; New Hope in Henderson, Kentucky; PAAWS No-Kill Animal Shelter in Evansville; Feline Fix in Evansville; and the Vanderburgh Humane Society — will be onsite for each race to sell merchandise, take donations, increase awareness about their organization, and share information about pet adoptions and fostering.

Sundae Social

2-4 p.m. July 17

This weekend, “Sunday Funday” is spelled with an “e” at Evansville Countryside Orchard. Fresh ice cream sundaes are on the menu, courtesy of JB’s Barnyard, as well as other treats.

Indiana Pacers’ Junior Hoops Tour

10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 18
C.K. Newsome Community Center, 100 E. Walnut St.

Children between ages six and 14 can participate in this free event hosted by the Indiana Pacers and learn basketball fundamentals as well as sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy living. A complimentary lunch, Junior Hoops T-shirt, prizes, games, and giveaways are included. Registration is required and limited.

The Women’s Hospital Tennis Classic

July 18-24
Wesselman Tennis Center, 551 N. Boeke Road

Up to 100 competitors will vie for $60,000 in prize money in this regional United States Tennis Association qualifier. Over the years, the USTA Pro Circuit event has welcomed rising stars such as now-four-time Grand Slam champ Naomi Osaka and Rebecca Marino, who is ranked 104 in the world and competed at Wimbledon earlier this month. Spectators are welcome at the event, which will benefit The Women’s Hospital’s services and programming. Additional tournament events include a one-hour clinic and social brunch on July 22, family day on July 23, and Lic’s Strawberries and Cream Finals before the 11 a.m. championship singles match July 24.

Posey County 4-H Fair

The annual fair includes a professional rodeo, corn hole tournament, free carnival rides, half-pot booth, antique tractor pull, and a demolition derby on Saturday.

Warrick County 4-H Fair

July 18-23
Warrick County Fairgrounds, 133 County Road 100 N., Boonville, Indiana

Enjoy a fashion show, tug-of-war competition, mud volleyball, garden tractor pull, livestock shows, and more at the Warrick County 4-H Fair. Rides are open daily.
