This Weekend: June 9-12

This weekend in the River City is heavy on outdoor activities and the arts. But first, start your Friday by showing some kindness to Mother Nature.

Great Evansville Clean-up

Grab your buckets and bags and take to the streets of Evansville to help make them sparkle. Keep Evansville Beautiful encourages everyone— resident or business — to get out and clean up parts of the city this Friday morning. Participants can choose where and when they want to clean up, with some neighborhoods organizing their own clean-up crews. Several businesses have committed to collecting litter on and around their campuses, including Berry Global, Old National Bank, Deaconess Health System, SWIRCA & More, and the Boys & Girls Club. Keep Evansville Beautiful is offering litter buckets, bags, and gloves, as well as litter wands and dumpsters upon request.

Indiana State Senior Games
June 9-19 and 24-26

Cheer on athletes over age 50 as they compete to qualify for the 2023 National Senior Games. Qualifying events held throughout Evansville in June include archery, badminton, bowling, pickleball, swimming, tennis, and track and field. Competition locations include the Deaconess Sports Complex, C.K. Newsome Community Center, Deaconess Aquatic Center, Evansville Tennis Center, River City Recreation, and Castle High School in Newburgh, Indiana. Qualifying athletes will advance to the 2023 National Senior Games held in July 2023 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Specific dates and times related the sporting competitions are available online.

Annual West Side Nut Club Cruise-In

Cruise with the West Side Nut Club on Franklin Street and enjoy a day of hot rods and classic cars. All makes and models of cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome; registration is free and takes place 2-6 p.m. Awards will be announced later in the day, along with the winner of a half-pot drawing.

Missoula Children’s Theatre presents ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’

The Missoula Children’s Theatre and local students presents an original musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen classic “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Working in conjunction with the EVSC Foundation, the Missoula Children’s Theatre brings to Evansville a set, lights, costumes, props, and makeup, but the production features more than local students from first through eighth grades. Admission is free thanks for sponsorships by the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, Bally’s of Evansville, and the Mesker Music Trust.

Annual Golden Raintree Antique Show

Join the New Harmony Business Associates for an authentic antique and vintage show for an all-day indoor and outdoor shopping experience. More than 50 dealers hailing from six states will show off unique finds in furniture, vintage advertising, sterling silver, glassware, jewelry, linens, books, cookware, and architectural salvage. Admission is free.

Art in the Garden & More

Local artists will display their wares at the master gardeners’ display garden for the annual Art in the Garden & More. Indulge in treats from area food trucks, visit four education stations, and bring a lawn chair and enjoy tunes by The Honey Vines.
