A renovation and expansion of Kirby’s Private Dining (1119 Parrett St.) is scheduled for completion March 8. The 120-seat ballroom will become a 200-seat Downtown venue. Scott Schymik, the executive chef and owner of the upscale private dining restaurant and catering company, won Evansville’s first Steel Cook competition, a culinary contest pitting eight local chefs for kitchen bragging rights, in late January. In honor of their fourth year in operation, the owners of Black Buggy Restaurant & Bakery (4920 Davis Lant Drive; Hwy. 57 S., Washington, Ind.) have added healthier options — grilled chicken, whole grain rice, and steamed vegetables — to the buffets. “Some guests said they only visit on special occasions because the buffet was too much,” says general manager Audrey Hinderliter. “People were telling us they love our chicken and dressing but need a smaller portion.” The wait staff at the Amish-style locations now serves a low-cost, one-plate option. A salad bar is another addition.
