Livin’ in a Vegan Paradise

Evansville is an oasis of fried and savory dining options, with meat-based dishes sitting at the top of the list. These local favorites, from burgers to nachos, are all offered on Flourish Plant-Based Eatery’s newest menu as a healthy, vegan option.

The vegan restaurant focused on animal rights, inclusion, and sustainability has a menu overflowing with familiar comfort foods made entirely of plants. In fall 2021, Flourish unveiled a new menu (with a fully designed version by Samantha Scott) that expanded its former offerings, such as salads, burgers, and pizza naan, and added new shareable appetizers like barbecue pork nachos.

“I’m obsessed with nachos of any kind, and the barbecue pork nachos are probably now in my top five favorite nachos,” says Evansville Living Senior Graphic Designer Casey Scarbrough. “I haven’t tried many meat substitutes, so I didn’t know what to expect from the barbecue seitan, but it definitely had a meaty texture that worked well with the flavors and textures piled on the plate.”

Evansville Living visited the eatery at 222 S. Red Bank Road on the West Side for a quick but delicious lunch break. Although none of the lunching members were vegan, our staff enjoyed finding healthier alternative without sacrificing flavor and fulfillment.

“Flourish was such a unique and delicious dining experience,” says Graphic Designer Morgan Dean. “I loved how the restaurant was decorated with a variety of plants and light, clean colors. Everything I ordered was beautifully presented and extremely yummy. My favorite was the green juice.”
