Long Live the Log Inn

When it comes to lists, we know our readers can’t get enough of them — from Evansville Living’s annual “Best of the City” feature in the September/October issue to online restaurant reviews. The Daily Meal, a digital publication, recently combined one of its popular lists with the River City’s other favorite subject — food.

Published on Jan. 2, 2020 the “Oldest Restaurant in Every State” list features the 50-longest running establishments in the country, including a Tri-State favorite.

Beating out dining options as far and wide as Indianapolis and Gary, Indiana, The Log Inn at 12491 Country Road, Haubstadt, IN is the state’s oldest restaurant. The comfort food eatery serving family-style American dishes was originally a stagecoach stop between Evansville and Vincennes.

Built in 1825, the Log Inn is known for homemade pies, fried chicken, and traditional southern-comfort sides. Besides its stellar menu, the restaurant has remained an area staple for its historic moments.

In 1844, while serving in the Illinois State Legislature, Abraham Lincoln reportedly visited The Log Inn. Modern day patrons can now enjoy their food and drink in the same original log room that the 16th president once enjoyed.

The Log Inn is open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
