Japandi style is a popular home design trend that combines Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics. It is minimal but warm, clean but calming. It essentially encapsulates the 2020 Idea Home.
The Idea Home homeowners Drs. Hubert and Maricel Reyes have worked to perfectly execute this Japandi vision with the help of Hirsch Custom Homes and Maricel’s cousin Rick Guina of Irvine, California, who is the home’s architect and designed the plans.
“We came from California, and we want to bring the California feel here in the Midwest,” says Maricel.
Maricel, who will soon open and manage Glow Aesthetic Medicine and Wellness, and Hubert, co-owner and co-medical director at Medisphere Medical Research Center and a family physician at St. Vincent Ascension Medical Group West Franklin Primary Care, have worked to include the entire family in the planning of the home in the Estates at Victoria.
Their son Nathan, an incoming senior at Indiana University, is excited about the basement spaces with family living and entertainment areas, a kitchen, a prayer room, and in-home theater. Caitleen, an incoming junior at Castle High School, loves the outdoor deck and the interior staircase, spanning three stories with a large skylight to bring natural light all the way to the basement.
Connecting the indoors and outdoors, through large glass windows and doors, a sunroom with panoramic folding glass doors, and covered lanai, also was important for the family and reinforces the natural, earthy style of the interior.
“Our style is more of a modern with distinctive architectural features, like intentional asymmetry with each elevation of the house having different character,” says Hubert. “We like mostly clean looking white walls but with warmth and a homey feeling when you enter the house.”
