Better Books Sale

Shop puzzles, dolls, and books from rare and antique to special collections and yearbooks. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Friends of Willard Library.

Wine Down to the Weekend
5-7 p.m. Sept. 7, Reitz Home Museum, 112 Chestnut St.
Enjoy music by local band Corduroy Orbison and have a drink in the shade of the historic Reitz Home Museum.

Food Trucks at Friedman
5-8 p.m. Sept. 7, Friedman Park, 2700 Park Blvd., Newburgh, Indiana
The last food truck night of the season will feature classic rock music from The Smoke Rings.

Private Patio Party

Take a lesson in cocktail creation and enjoy a five-course banquet and tequila tasting featuring El Jimador tequila. Admission costs $45 per person.

Book Launch: “Tiny Teak” and “From Acorns to Oaks”

Celebrate the release of two books on regional subjects: “Tiny Teak,” by Mary Ellen Ziliak and Lucy Ziliak Will, and “From Acorns to Oaks: A Century of West Side Nut Club Fall Festivals and Philanthropy,” by Mary Ellen Ziliak.

Friday Knights Hunger Bowl
6:30 p.m. Sept. 8, Enlow Field,1300 Washington Ave.
Reitz Memorial hosts Mater Dei for this football game and annual fundraiser, which collects money for St. Vincent DePaul’s food pantry. In seven years, this event has raked in almost $60,000.

River Days
Sept. 8-9, W. Water St., Mount Vernon, Indiana
Mosey over to the Mount Vernon riverfront to enjoy this annual festival featuring a boat parade, 5K race, car show, pet parade, a half-pot drawing, fireworks, and musical entertainment.

Grand Opening of The Hope Gallery and Battle of the Beards
noon-4 p.m. Sept. 9, The Hope Gallery, 512 W. Main St., Newburgh, Indiana
5-7 p.m. Sept. 9, VFW #1114, 110 N. Wabash Ave.
Enjoy kids’ activities, free ice cream, live music from The Honey Vines, and a chance to meet the artists who bring The Hope Gallery to life. Then, head to VFW #1114 in Evansville for a beard contest with eight categories to judge, with proceeds benefiting The Hope Gallery.

Night Gallery and Dark Market
5-8 p.m. Sept. 9, Main Street Wedding and Event Venue, 315 N. Main St.
Get started on Halloween early with art and decor to make your space extra creepy. La Plaza Food Truck also will be there. Proceeds benefit PAAWS, a local animal shelter.

2023 Mayor’s Cup
7 p.m. Sept. 9, Strassweg Field, 8600 University Blvd.
The University of Southern Indiana and University of Evansville soccer teams face off. Tickets cost $10, and a portion of proceeds benefit the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana.

Metro Ballroom Dance Club Community Dance
7:30-10 p.m. Sept. 9, Veterans Memorial Coliseum, 300 Court St.
Take a dance lesson from Scott and Eva Key, and then dance the night away to music DJ’d by Scott. Admission is $10.

Speaking Series — Time Capsule Opening
1-3 p.m. Sept. 10, Preservation Hall, 200 State St., Newburgh, Indiana
Attend the opening of a time capsule found in the walls of Newburgh Presbyterian Church. Period-centric activities include costumes, Civil War-era music, and church artifacts.
