Tucker Publishing Group, Inc., would like to introduce Lindsey McIntosh! The rising senior at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, is fulfilling her College Heights Herald Endowment Fellowship this summer at TPG. Originally from Hebron, Kentucky, Lindsey is double majoring in visual journalism/photography and journalism. She has worked for WKU’s Cherry Creative publishing house, served as Photo Editor for the Talisman magazine during the past academic year, and is involved with the National Press Photographers Association. Here, she details her love of photography, what she’s already learning about the magazine industry, and what career paths she may pursue.
Tell us your photography origin story.
I became interested in photography when I was 11 years old. My family and I went on a three-week vacation in the West and Southwest. We saw more than 17 national parks. I started to get images of the landscapes on my iPhone SE and just kept taking photos. I got my first camera the following Christmas.Â
What kinds of photos are your favorite to shoot?
Features. They could be candid or posed. I like going to special events or places to shoot something interesting and fun.Â
You got to choose where to do your fellowship. Why did you select TPG?
Because of my previous experience working at the Talisman. I wanted to see how a different and professional magazine operated.
What has surprised you so far about the magazine industry?
I think there is a level of organization I did not expect. The magazine has a system that impressed me when I saw how everything operates.Â
Tell us one thing you hope to accomplish during your fellowship at TPG.
I hope to gain more confidence in doing portraiture and using light more effectively in my images.Â
Besides photography, what hobbies do you have?
Hiking, walking, hanging out with friends, watching YouTube, reading, and traveling to new places.Â
Speaking of travel, if you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
There are many places I would love to see. An area I would really like to explore is the Northeast region of the U.S. I want to visit Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., Boston, and Maine in particular. It is a region I have not visited yet, except for New York City.Â
What is one specific thing you want to experience in life?
I went to Italy last summer, but I did not get to experience the Vespas. I want to ride a Vespa in the countryside in Tuscany.Â
Define your dream job or career goals.
Doing what I love by capturing visuals in video and photos while seeing new places!Â
