A quick, easy meal or a fresh, homecooked dinner — Chef Doug Rennie, owner of Just Rennie’s Catering, Café, and Cookie Co. is proving you can have both with the café’s new Chef Doug’s TV Dinners.
The single-serve meals packaged in compartmentalized plastic containers can be warmed up on site to enjoy on the patio or heated later for a homemade meal at home or work. The TV Dinners offer family favorites like meatloaf or roast beef with red potatoes and roasted vegetables on the side or single servings of meatloaf, meat, white, and veggie lasagna.
The coronavirus shutdown earlier this year meant Rennie lost some of his catering business, but the TV Dinners have given his café a boost and created a lot of loyal fans wanting a fast and easy meal with fresh, from-scratch cooking.
“You have to think outside the box,” says Rennie. “You might have to reinvent yourself a little bit, and while our catering business went down next door, over here it picked up.”
