Doggone Good Time

Not all heroes wear capes, but at the Vanderburgh Humane Society’s 23rd annual Going, Going, Gone to the Dogs benefit dinner and auction, guests will tap into their inner powers for this year’s theme “UnLEASH Your Inner Hero” to raise awareness and funds for the organization.

Held at 5:30 p.m. on April 28, which happens to be National Superhero Day, the event is sponsored by Pet Food Center and Jack Rogers Realty at the Holiday Inn Evansville Airport, 7101 U.S. Highway 41. Guests will enjoy a preview cocktail party, dinner, and silent and live auctions. Items in the auction include baskets, gift cards, services, artwork, jewelry, vacation packages, sports memorabilia, and more.

The auction typically raises more than $60,000 for the humane society, which serves the largest number of animals in the Tri-State each year. Since the VHS receives no tax-based funding, the organization relies on community support and events like the benefit dinner and auction to continue offering its services.

Since 1957, the VHS has provided protection for homeless animals and intervention for animals in abusive environments and continues to provide education to Vanderburgh County and the surrounding area.
