The Committee to Promote Respect in Schools first brought the children’s opera, Brundibar, to Evansville in 2005. The performance returned to the Victory Theatre April 16. Children auditioned for roles in the production, which was accompanied by members of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. A fundraising dinner on the Victory’s fifth floor preceded the performance, followed by a dessert reception throughout the theatre lobbies for all cast and audience members after the show.  Phyllis Bussing and I co-chaired the dinner and dessert reception. Turning out to provide their favorite sweets were representatives from Bauerhaus, Biaggi’s, EnJoyIt!, The Granola Jar, Ivy Tech’s hospitality and culinary arts students, La Sombra, Michelle’s Icing on the Cake, Pastries with Panache, Piece of Cake, Sodexo at the University of Evansville, and the Girl Scouts of Raintree Council.  The event raised funds for a major anti-bullying project being developed for CYPRESS by Youth First.
