Spooky season is upon us, and last year, Cameron Meadows decided to get into the spirit by erecting a 10-foot-tall plastic skeleton peeping over a fence at her home in Eastland Estates, off Covert Avenue.
Mr. Bones, as Meadows aptly named it, became a sensation โ so much so that she decided to keep it up beyond Halloween.
โI had people stop and knock on the door and tell me how wonderful it was, so I just went with it,โ Meadows says.
She gussied up Mr. Bones for Christmas, Valentineโs Day, St. Patrickโs Day, and Aprilโs total solar eclipse. Some May high school graduates donned their cap and gown and posed with Bones (who wore a mortarboard, of course).
Meadows decided it was time for Mr. Bones to have a partner. In early June, a Home & Style second, 12-foot-tall skeleton arrived, named Evan (short for Evansville), and the 10-footer became Elvira.
Their first joint pose was as (what else?) husband and wife. They later were decked out for Pride month in June, the Fourth of July, the Summer Olympics, and the start of school. Fans have responded by tossing a few gift cards over her fence to supplement the coupleโs next adventure.
Meadows says she never was a huge exterior decorator, but as an empty nester, bringing a skeleton and then two skeletons into her life โgave me something to do. Iโve always been into crafting and making stuff, and this kind of fell into place.โ
Evan and Elvira arenโt going anywhere, Meadows says, encouraging fans to follow Evansville Bonesโ Facebook page to see what theyโre up to next.
