Meet Jolie Hunter

The Randall T. Shepard Academy for Law and Social Justice student is job shadowing at TPG

Tucker Publishing Group, Inc., would like to introduce you to Jolie Hunter! Since January 2026, Jolie has job shadowed at TPG as part of her curriculum at the Randall T. Shepard Leadership and Law Academy at William Henry Harrison High School. Two to three times a week, she gets an insider look at the magazine industry, learning firsthand the steps that the editorial, art, sales, and publishing teams at TPG take to produce a polished, entertaining monthly city magazine from start to finish. (Readers also will spot Jolie’s byline on a story in Evansville Living’s 2026 issue of City View!)

Here are a few details about Jolie, who plans to study journalism at the University of Southern Indiana starting in August 2026.

Name: Jolie Hunter
Age: 18
Hobbies: Reading, painting, and photography
Career Goals: Work as an investigative reporter and write for a major publication

What kinds of stories do you like to tell?

Mostly human interest. Getting a look into other people’s worlds and attempting to connect with perspectives far from my own are the most exciting parts of writing for me.

Describe what you’ve learned about magazine publishing while shadowing TPG.

I’ve learned so much about the technical side of publishing. I’ve loved reading magazine articles for years now, but following the production of a story from its initial pitch all the way to publication has taught me a lot about collaboration, creative thinking, and problem solving.

What has surprised you most about the magazine industry?

How much a story can change over time. TPG’s Managing Editor Jodi Keen, who has been my mentor during my time here, always talks about stories “revealing” what they’ll be about as they’re written. I’ve seen firsthand how the narrative focus of a piece can evolve as new information is gathered and stories come to light.

You penned a few stories for the City View issue of Evansville Living! What was that like?

Very, very exciting! When I first got my internship position with TPG, I expected to be going on coffee runs and organizing shelves. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d get to actually write. Researching, interviewing subjects, and constructing stories has been incredibly rewarding.

Tell us your favorite part of your internship at TPG.

Obviously, writing for City View was an incredible opportunity, but my favorite part of the experience as a whole has been getting to observe all the different pieces working together. I’ve gotten to talk with the marketing team, tag along on a photoshoot, and workshop my writing with staff writers. Seeing an issue being constructed from every angle has been really interesting.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?

Just about anywhere in Ireland. I love hiking, and Ireland’s natural landscape is, in my opinion, the most beautiful in the world.

What is one specific thing you want to experience in life?

I’ve always wanted to publish my own book. Reading the narrative nonfiction stories of Joan Didion and Patti Smith has really inspired me to one day try my hand at long-form writing.
