Evansville celebrates Baptisttown, going back to school, German heritage, and more this weekend.

Volksfest
11 a.m.-11 p.m. Aug. 3-5, Germania Maennerchor, 916 N. Fulton Ave.
This annual festival is back and celebrates all things German, from beer and cuisine to music. Toss on your lederhosen or dirndl and dance to traditional tunes played by the Rhein Valley Brass and Cincinnati Schnapps Band. Refuel with kraut balls, bratwurst, pig knuckles, mashed potatoes, or potato salad, and try your luck at the nightly half-pot drawing. Don’t miss the Brat Trot 5K at 8 a.m. Aug. 5 and the kids’ corner at 9-11 a.m. Aug. 5. Volksfest is open to all ages until 2 p.m. Daily admission for adults is free until 4 p.m. and costs $5 after then.

All Messed Up: Back to School Bash
1-3 p.m. Aug 4, Children’s Museum of Evansville, 22 S.E. Fifth St.
Say hello to a new school year with a bubble station, splat painting, sidewalk art, water balloon launch, kids’ car wash, and an egg drop challenge. Stay for Family Free Night from 5-8 p.m.

August First Friday
5:30-9 p.m. Aug 4, Haynie’s Corner Arts District, Southwest Second Street and Adams Avenue
Soul N The Pocket and an Irish jam band headline this month’s First Friday, which includes Bruce Li, La Plaza, Barrel House, and Jeanne’s Gelato food trucks.

Ivy Tech Wellness in the Park
10 a.m.-noon Aug. 5, Wesselman Park, 551 N. Boeke Road
Get outside with games, sports, art, music, and an optional hike to the Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener’s Association Display Garden at the State Hospital Grounds. There also will be bottled water, snacks, and prizes. Registration is required.

Baptisttown Emancipation Festival
11 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 5, Lincoln School playground, 635 Lincoln Ave.
Celebrate Evansville’s historic Black neighborhood with inflatables, a back-to-school backpack giveaway, live music from Dekar Barker and Friends, and vendors selling food, clothing, and art.

Foam Party Summer Reading Finale
2-3 p.m. Aug. 5, Willard Public Library, 21 First Ave.
Close the book on summer break at this foam party by Daniels Foam Factory.

On the Roof with Xanderwolf and The Chugs
6:30-10 p.m. Aug. 5, Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, 212 Main St.
Local bands Xanderwolf and The Chugs take the stage at this free all-ages concert.

EVPL Foundation Annual Summer Book Sale
Aug. 5-6, Washington Square Mall, 4800 S. Green River Road
Browse volumes of books, movies, CDs, and more media, all for sale for as little as 50 cents. Proceeds support Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library programs and services.

“Turn of the 20th Century Victorian Mourning Practices”

Dayne Lawson shares extensive cultural knowledge of the Victorian and Civil War eras as a Civil War re-enactor and collector of jewelry, clothing, and other period items.

Eli Youngblood in Concert

The recent Castle High School grad and budding hip-hop artist performs songs from his EP at this free concert.
