The start of summer marks the end of IHSAA sports for the 2021-22 school year. This year was one for the history books for local high school athletes, as several regional teams and competitors took home the state’s top prizes. Celebrate these champions before they begin the 2022-23 school year!

Evansville North wins girls golf state title

The Huskies earned their sixth title in eight years when they trounced Fort Wayne’s Homestead High School by 18 shots at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, on Oct. 2, 2021.

Memorial claims girls’ soccer state championship

Memorial High School won a nail-biter on Oct. 30, when narrowly defeating Mishawaka Marian High School 1-0 in overtime in Indianapolis, Indiana, to claim the fifth girls’ soccer Class 2A state title in program history.

Forest Park takes home girls’ basketball state title

The Ferdinand, Indiana Forest Park High School girls’ basketball team secured the first title in program history on Feb. 26, outlasting Frankton High School 52-44 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Tecumseh captures girls’ basketball state championship

Claiming its first state title in program history, Lynnville, Indiana’s Tecumseh High School’s girls’ basketball team defeated Lafayette Central Catholic High School 60-53 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Feb. 26.

Gibson Southern earns first 3A state football title

The Fort Branch, Indiana Gibson Southern football team stood atop Class 3A this season, winning its first title in program history by topping Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School 45-35 on Nov. 26 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Memorial’s Ray Brodie claims 100-meter state championship

Memorial High School’s Ray Brodie outran the competition on June 4 by winning the 100-meter state finals with a time of 10.57 at Bloomington’s Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University.

Tecumseh swings its way to Class A softball state title

Tecumseh’s softball team bested Union City’s South Central High School to win the Class A softball state title on June 10 at Purdue University’s Bittenger Stadium. This was the fourth state championship victory in program history.

Memorial’s Ellie Myers wins IHSAA tennis singles title

Memorial senior Ellie Myers took home the girls’ tennis state singles championship on June 11, defeating Park Tudor High School’s Lauren Long in two sets, 6-2 and 6-2, and capping a perfect 26-0 record this season.
