When I learned my cousin’s bachelorette party would involve wine, I wasn’t surprised. When she informed us that in our other hand would be a paintbrush, I will admit, I felt panicked. We were registered to enjoy a girl’s night sipping wine and painting on canvas at Rose and Monet.
The Scoop
Located on Vogel Road next to Eastland Mall, Rose and Monet began two years ago at Lasata Winery in Lawrenceville, Illinois. In early 2014, the owners opened a “paint and sip” studio in Evansville.
The studio is set up with two long banquet-style tables lined with blank canvases on easels awaiting would-be artists to recreate the evening’s featured painting. After signing in and grabbing an apron, our instructor, Gale Leach, began to set up her finished canvas of a hillside landscape with hot air balloons floating in the distance.
Throughout the class, we were encouraged to add our own interpretation to personalize our work. I felt fidgety at first, but eventually found the painting techniques eased my anxiety. Before too long, I found my inner artist and began using varying color combinations and brush strokes other than what the instruction called for.
The paint studio seats 64 people and offers alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase (the wine is not included in the $35-$45 cost).
Rose and Monet accommodates for all events: private parties, corporate team building events, bridal showers, fundraisers, and more.
The Verdict
As a girl who still has to label her stick figures, I wasn’t expecting to be made an artist in one wine-filled class. So I was pleasantly surprised when my painting resembled a landscape that I will proudly display in my home. I had such fun that I have convinced my boyfriend to book a couple’s session for our anniversary — the couple’s session allows both painters to complete separate canvases that come together as one painting.
