FTC measures, designs, and fabricates custom covers for commercial and industrial facilities like manufacturing plants, pharmaceutical and petrochemical facilities, hospitals, and power plants.
“Our insulation covers are removable and reusable,” says Megan Knoll, FTC director of operations since 2017. “Think of them as a gigantic, perfectly fitted coozie on equipment that gets really hot or really cold or needs protection from environmental factors. Conventional insulation doesn’t make sense for something that you need regular access to. … We save customers money by insulating parts that have never been insulated.”
Owned by Evansville-based Gribbins Specialty Group, FTC began as an insulation cover fabrication division of Gribbins Insulation. Increased demand for custom covers led to FTC becoming its own entity in 2009. In August 2020, FTC moved into its own 28,000-square-foot building nearby at 1200 N. Willow Road. The new facility houses about 25 employees, 30 industrial sewing machines and operators, two CNC machine cutting tables and operators, fabricators, quality control, shipping and receiving, and office space.
Fit Tight’s insulating covers are implemented in facilities across the U.S. as well as regionally at Mead Johnson Nutrition, CenterPoint Energy, and AmeriQual in Evansville; Alcoa and Kaiser Aluminum in Newburgh, Indiana; Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in Princeton, Indiana; and AstraZeneca in Mt. Vernon, Indiana.
“Insulation is kind of like the original green construction tools,” says Knoll. “When you talk about smart thermostats and appliances, and LED lights, so often, insulation gets left out of that conversation, but it serves such a great purpose.”
