Back in Town

After three decades in business, Kevin Pass thought it was time to retire, but his passion for connecting with staff and customers brought him back to doing what he loves.

Pass founded Action Pest Control 35 years ago but sold the business in 2015 and signed a five-year, no-compete agreement with the company that acquired it.

After growing bored with retirement and thinking he was too young to be retired, Pass went back to business, starting up Pass Pest Control in January 2020. His goal was to give some of his former employees a fresh opportunity. Several have already come back on board with him and he suspects more will do so in the future.

“We always prided ourselves on having a very professional company, but also having one that has a family atmosphere, that family feel, where people want to work at the company,” says Pass.

With about 2,000 customers and a 50-mile radius service area, Pass hopes to eventually expand to Terre Haute, Indiana, and Indianapolis.

“The Tri-State has been really good to me and it’s been a good place to raise a family and so I hope to build a big business again,” he says.

Starting up a new business isn’t easy, and it wasn’t made any easier with the COVID-19 pandemic spreading across the United States just months after opening.

The company was ready however, as they abided by all the Personal Protective Equipment requirements and began offering a new comprehensive BioProtect sanitation service, which makes up about 25 percent of their business.

BioProtect is an antimicrobial coating that inhibits the growth and spreading of germs and bacteria for up to 60 days. The coating is applied using state-of-the-art electrostatic fogger and antiviral wipes.

Offered as a bi-monthly service for residential and commercial customers, Pass says they guarantee that if somebody gets COVID-19 or somebody that’s infected comes into the facility, they’ll come back and treat it at no charge.

“We’ve been researching and found a product that we feel like offers some protection over a period of time that we can back that up with a warranty,” he says.
