A Modest Pair

John and Diane Schroeder’s dedication to their community, family, and each other makes it clear why the couple received the Rotary Club of Evansville’s 2019 Civic Award.

“I was surprised to say the least,” says Diane. “It’s always a blessing to be able to use the resources we’ve had, abilities, and energy to help other people and help other organizations prosper.”

An Evansville native, John received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Indiana, and a master’s degree in business administration from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. The president and CEO of Crescent Plastics, Inc. and Wabash Plastics, Inc., he is a life member of Keep Evansville Beautiful and a 2017 Evansville Regional Business Hall of Fame laureate.

Born in Northern Illinois, Diane got her bachelor’s degree in music at Butler University, Indianapolis, and her master’s degree in elementary education at UE. She played viola in the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra for 18 years, founded the EPO Youth Orchestra, and is a member of the American Guild of Organists.

Married for 49 years, both work with several other local boards and charities.

“Both of us have been very pleased and honored to receive this award,” adds John. “Even if I hadn’t gotten any of these awards, I would’ve done everything the same. You don’t do it for the awards.”
