Glaze Craze

When it comes to tasty breakfast treats, it’s hard to beat a doughnut. And Parlor Doughnuts in Downtown Evansville strives to bring a layered twist to the classic.

“As a doughnut lover, I have traveled the country to experience the nation’s best dough. I knew Evansville would respond to the layered style doughnuts I personally love,” says Darrick Hayden, co-owner of Parlor.

Opened in February, the shop offers more than 15 flavors of these layered doughnuts (different from a traditional doughnut dough), made fresh daily at the shop along Third Street. Selections range from raspberry pistachio (raspberry glaze and pistachios) to Hayden’s favorite, French toast (maple glaze and cinnamon sugar). Parlor also has coffee roasted in-house and other drinks. Hayden adds the shop has vegan and gluten-free options as well.

“We get flavor ideas from all over. We enjoy creating combos that have culinary flair,” he says. “We love to serve amazing products with unparalleled friendliness.”

Look for Parlor’s doughnuts on the East Side soon — Hayden says plans are underway to open a shop on Green River Road with an expanded menu. He’s also taking Parlor across the country — the first out-of-state flagship Parlor will open in Oceanside, California, in 2020.
