There’s much to be thankful for in the Tri-State this holiday season. In addition to feasting, there are plenty of Thanksgiving Day activities and opportunities to help others.

Nov. 23
Evansville Rescue Mission, 500 E. Walnut St.

Help ensure every Tri-State family can enjoy a Thanksgiving feast by donating to the Evansville Rescue Mission’s 100th annual Gobbler Gathering food basket giveaway. Every family in need who attends this event can take home a 60-pound basket filled with food for their Thanksgiving holiday. Volunteers can drop off food donations at 500 E. Walnut St. through Friday, Nov. 19; donate money to help the Rescue Mission cover expenses; drum up additional funds by participating in Nov. 20’s Drumstick Dash run/walk; or share their time with day-of setup, food distribution, and cleanup.

Haynie’s Corner Community Thanksgiving

Sauced ballroom, 1113 Parrett St.

Neighborhood businesses and volunteers offer a free Thanksgiving Day dinner to anyone who wants to enjoy company and community over a Thanksgiving meal. Along with the buffet in the ballroom at Sauced, a cash bar will be available for those over age 21.

Turkey Day 5K
8 a.m. Nov. 25
DoubleTree Hilton Evansville, 601 Walnut St.

Join Fifth Third Bank this Thanksgiving Day for its 32nd Turkey Day 5K. This annual race helps fund resources to Evansville Goodwill’s job placement and training programs, which aid Tri-State residents in overcoming barriers to employment. Pricing is $25 per person for youth, $30 per person for adults, and $25 per person for a family. Race fee increases by $5 after Nov. 20.

87th Hadi Shrine Circus
Nov. 25-28
Ford Center, 1 S.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

See the 87th Hadi Shrine Circus at the Ford Center on Thanksgiving weekend. This annual event features one of the largest three-ring circuses left in the world and includes performances by elephants, acrobats, clowns, lions, and zebras. This year’s main act will feature Bello Nock, a daredevil clown and circus performer.
