Spring Theater is Still Rolling

For most schools, spring theater is winding down, but there still are plenty of productions to enjoy. This week alone, Tri-State residents can attend at least four plays, with more on the horizon.

Auditions for the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Foundation’s annual summer musical also are taking place this week. Students can sign up for an audition slot online. Auditions on Thursday, April 13, will be held at William Henry Harrison High School from 3-5:30 p.m. and the Academy for Innovative Studies (AIS) from 6-8:30 p.m. Callbacks will be held Monday, April 17, at AIS from 3:30-9 p.m. Performances of “The Addams Family” are scheduled for July 13-16 at the Old National Events Plaza. 

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
7:30 p.m. April 13-15; 2:30 p.m. April 16
Reitz Memorial High School Auditorium, 1500 Lincoln Ave.
Based on the 1968 film co-written by “James and the Giant Peach” author Roald Dahl, this musical fantasy sets hearts racing through one family’s interactions with a former Grand Prix-winning car.

Noises Off
7:30 p.m. April 14-15 and April 20-22; 2 p.m. April 23
University of Evansville Hyde Hall Shanklin Theatre, 1800 Lincoln Ave.
This Tony Award-nominated comedy follows a troupe of actors’ haphazard dress rehearsal before they embark on a tour.

The Devised Theatre Project
7 p.m. April 15; 2 p.m. April 16
University of Southern Indiana Mallette Studio (lower level of the Liberal Arts Center), 8600 University Blvd.

Animal Farm
2-4 p.m. April 15 and 22
University of Evansville’s John David Lutz Theatre Lab, 1800 Lincoln Ave.
Performed by the University of Evansville Theatre Department’s traveling performance troupe, Rogue and Peasant Aces, this adaptation is faithful to George Orwell’s original satire.

The Play That Goes Wrong
7:30 p.m. May 5-6; 2 p.m. May 7
STAGEtwo at 321, 321 N. Congress Ave.
In this play-within-a-play, accident-prone thespians attempt to stage a production of “The Murder at Haversham Manor,” and hilarity ensues.

Big Fish
7:30-10 p.m. May 19-20 and 26-27; 2-4:30 p.m. May 21 and 28
Benjamin Bosse High School, 1300 Washington Ave.
The Evansville Civic Theatre closes out its season with a son’s journey out to learn more about his traveling-salesman father’s elaborate stories.

The Princess and the Pea
3 and 5 p.m. June 17
Washington Middle School, 1801 Washington Ave.
This annual EVSC Foundation production teams with the Missoula Children’s theater. Auditions are June 12, with rehearsals taking place June 12-16. Performances are slated for June 17.

The Addams Family
7 p.m. July 13-15; 2 p.m. July 16
Old National Events Plaza, 715 Locust St.
This “Addams Family” stage production dials down the movie’s camp but still plays up the characters’ inherent weirdness. Featuring the Tri-State’s top school-age theater performers.
