SINCE SIXTH AND ZERO opened its Main Street storefront in 2020, owner Mary Allen has offered a variety of sustainable products. One service has flown under the radar, so Allen decided to get creative with its promotion.
The shop offers refills on shampoos, soaps, conditioners, and creams. Since May, Sixth and Zero’s most varied product line, The Refillery’s Bulk Foods & Dry Goods, has let customers bring in their own containers to restock on dry goods like oats, spices, and coffee beans.
In July, Allen introduced a snack mix that she created using an assortment of ingredients from her own bulk selection to generate more buzz for The Refillery.
“I think there’s still a lack of awareness of what we carry in bulk here, so we wanted to do a fun monthly snack feature and create our own snack mix from the various ingredients in our dry foods section,” Allen says.
July’s mashup, dubbed “Mary’s Munchies,” featured a base of dark chocolate and cashew granola, complemented with dried coconut, pumpkin seeds, and chocolate chips.
August’s blend, nicknamed “Kris’ Krunch” after Sixth and Zero’s manager Kris Evans, showcased the store’s cranberry granola topped off with chocolate and banana chips, cashews, and pecans.
Moving forward, Allen says she will look to create monthly trail mixes inspired by each of her employees.
“It’s an evolving idea,” Allen says.
