All You Knead is Bread

Great Harvest returns with fan-favorite loaves and baked goods

Calling bread lovers everywhere: An Evansville baked goods staple has reopened. Great Harvest Bread Co. & Cafe at 423 Metro Ave. reopened in June under new ownership.

Great Harvest first opened in Evansville in the mid-1990s and closed in fall 2021. The new owners, Braden Henson and his parents Joe and Debbie Henson, are Petersburg, Indiana, natives.

The fan-favorite shop returns its wide array of freshly baked breads, sweet treats, and lunch dishes like sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Everything is made from scratch, using pure ingredients and freshly milled whole wheat flour.

The bakery’s most popular bread is a honey whole wheat loaf, handmade from the aforementioned whole wheat flour, pure honey, filtered water, salt, and yeast. Other scrumptious-sounding loaves include an Everything bread; crunchy Dakota bread with sunflower, pumpkin, and sesame seeds; and a Harvest 5 Fiber bread.

For those with a strong sweet tooth, the Great Harvest menu features Cinnamon Chip bread, lemon bars, no-bake cookies, and a variety of fluffy scones and muffins. Guests also can take advantage of Great Harvest’s robust breakfast sandwich menu loaded with ham, bacon, turkey, cheese, and spreads in savory combinations.

Customers can order ahead online for takeout or enjoy their meal in the indoor cafe or on the outdoor patio. The baked goods pair perfectly with local Honey Moon coffee served in-house. And with two days’ notice, baked goods can be ordered in bulk – perfect for upcoming holiday gifts.

The East Side bakery and cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
