Siblings Kenny and Lindsey Ward know the restaurant world — their father, Kenny Sr., after all, owned East Side eatery The Carousel. With that decades-old business now closed, Kenny Jr. and Lindsey are putting their own stamp on homestyle dining at L&K Hometown Cafe, which opened in November at 920 Main St.
A hearty breakfast choice is The Curtis Combo (a nod to the nearby Curtis Building) with eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, a fluffy pancake, and a biscuit and gravy. Another popular pick is an omelette aptly named The Kitchen Sink, a four-egg heap with meats, cheeses, and vegetables, plus crumbled biscuit and gravy.
At lunch, “we sell a lot of the bacon smash burgers,” Kenny says. Send an alarm for Code 10-86 (Reckless Dining): three grilled patties and three types of cheese, plus bacon and dressings on a brioche bun. Diners also love the E-ville cheesesteak and pepperoni chicken Parmesan sandwiches. L&K has rekindled memories for diners, including Hope Fussner; the Evansville resident recalls eating at The Carousel as a kid. “It’s great to have a meal that tastes home-cooked and great people serving it,” she says. “Every time I’ve been (to L&K), they’ve made me feel like a regular.”
