During the 2019 Global Leadership Summit on Aug. 8 and 9, Left Turn Productions premiered its most recent film “Intervene,” which focuses on issues relating to substance abuse and addiction.

Evansville Living talked to the local film group for the story “In Focus” in the January/February issue following the release of the group’s third film “Left Turn II,” which recently was awarded an Ohio Valley Regional Emmy. The newest film, the group’s fourth, follows up on issues talked about in their second film “Care,” which focused on the foster care system in Evansville.

Jonathan Boettcher, the film’s writer and producer, says he met with local community members for research, including a local pastor who runs a ministry for recovering addicts, the county coroner, the Evansville Police Department Drug Task Force, and the director of addiction services at Stepping Stone.

“One of the things we learned is that addiction is a disease that affects the whole family,” says Boettcher.

The entire film was shot in Evansville and features several Evansville actors, with a couple of actors from Louisville, Kentucky. While the film hasn’t been released to the public yet, screening events can be booked, which will show the film in a group setting with resources and discussion guides provided.

“We see storytelling as an effective way to bring people together around a particular issue,” says Boettcher. “Our goal is to bring people together to solve the city’s most pressing needs.”
